Lumosity Mind

In early 2019, Lumosity added this new wellness product to its suite of apps, designed to make it easy for beginners to get started with the daily practice of meditation.

With over 100 million subscribers, Lumosity has been a leader in digital brain training for over ten years. In 2019, the company sought to expand its wellness offerings and bring the practice of meditation to its user base. Using a science-based approach with selections of daily meditations based on the customer's interests and experience, the app has courses that are targeted at certain areas like attention & focus, stress & anxiety, relaxation, sleep and others.


The Challenge

The design and development timeline was aggressive and we were tasked with transforming a working prototype into a new branded go-to-market product in only 3 months. This included developing a new name and brand identity, a visual design language, marketing assets and an entirely new user interface and product experience as well as supporting product, marketing and engineering teams with production-ready assets.


The Process

The brand team I was part of kicked off the project with research. We audited the prototype, examined the market landscape and developed a clear audience for the product, as well as defined the product's vision, brand values, visual language and design principles.

Once we had the foundations in place we worked closely with the product team to explore multiple design and user interface directions and concepts, generating both quantitative and qualitative data points along the way. Through the use of prototypes, visual concepts and tight feedback loops with product and leadership, we were able to validate our visual design and user interface concepts.

Armed with the fresh visual language I helped create on the brand team, I transitioned to the development and production teams to design the user interface library and design system as well as all of the production screen specs for two platforms. The app was launched successfully to both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.
